It’s Lucy (@LucyCrimefightr on Twitter) here, 2D artist for this here studio Ultimerse! I’ll be taking you through an average day for me as a 2D artist in the only way I know how: with my silly little drawings.
8am – 10am
The day begins! I start my day with a cup of tea after walking my puppy Maggie and begin going through my tasks from the afternoon prior. If it’s small I finish it off this morning while going through my task lists. I also write a physical list of what I need to make today ✨
10:15am
ITS TIME FOR STAND-UP! We gather and chat about our tasks for the day, these nearly always get derailed ~slightly~ whether it’s by us discussing the concept of a vampire blood pub or by Maggie deciding that my morning meeting is the perfect time to dig a hole in the yard.

11:00am-11:30am
Hannah and Tim go over some social media guidelines for this weekend and we begin some preliminary chats for some exciting things we are making! Being in these early chats allows me to keep an eye out for inspiration and begin brainstorming ideas for our online visual style!

11:40am-1:00pm
During this time I do some core research. This could be making moodboards, concepting initial ideas, or pestering Tim with 100 and 1 questions about a brief. We are quite a collaborative team so I also use this time to send off any work for feedback.

1:00pm
Lunchbreak! No drawing here because I doubt any of you want to see a grown woman eat fruit and porridge while chatting to her dog.
1:30pm-2:50pm
It’s Drawing time! I use this time block to illustrate assets we need. Things I can mention that i’ve recently created include: Character portraits, UI assets, drawover concept art, and some light conceptual work. What I draw here changes every day depending on priority!

3:00pm
Last meeting of the day is our group cool-down! We debrief on our tasks and give updates on any tasks we had that day. Maggie loves these meetings because it means it’s almost walk time!

4:00pm
IT’S OVER! That’s my day! I hope it gave you all a better idea of what a 2D artist game dev’s day can look like! Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a VERY EXCITED golden retriever puppy to walk.
